self-portrait vs selfie

https://www.nytimes.com/section/lensPART 1 - Self-portrait vs "Selfie"

Now that we have taken some self-portraits, lets take a look at the difference between a self-portrait and so-called "selfie". Is there a difference? Read the following article and tell me what you think! Write at least 3 paragraphs!! Title the new blog post "Self-portrait vs 'Selfie'"

What is a selfie?

a photo taken by oneself  usually using a phone

What is a self-portrait?

when the photographer takes the picture by themselves without holding the camera.

Is there a difference? If so, what?

self-portrait is very formal and high quality and can be in a studio. but a selfie is very informal and not as high of quality

What style do you prefer? Why?

I prefer a self-portrait because it is more high quality and i can also capture the background clearly

Is one more valuable/important than the other? Why?

I think that a self-portrait is more valuable/ important because it is more formal and higher quality and looks more professional. and can display a message and is meant to last longer.

_____________________________

I think the self-portrait and the selfie are two separate, though at times overlapping, efforts at establishing and embellishing a definition of one’s self. Qualities like medium specificity, deeply rooted histories, and traditions that define these efforts only superficially differentiate the two. What has greater weight is the selfie’s inherently replaceable and even disposable quality. If after taking a picture of oneself is not good enough, it is easily forgotten and replaced by a new picture.

The first thing that comes to mind is the idea behind the photos and what they are supposed to convey. With selfies, there’s too much depth. people take them to eternalize some important or fun moments of their lives, to prove that we were in a certain place at a certain time.

Self-portraits, on the other hand, usually require some preparation and planning. self-portrait is very formal and high quality and can be in a studio. but a selfie is very informal and not as high of quality. I think that a self-portrait is more valuable/ important because it is more formal and higher quality and looks more professional. and can display a message and is meant to last longer.

PART 2 - Shutterbug websites

Check out this web post:

http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/7-photography-websites-every-shutterbug-should-keep-a-click-away/

Check out the seven suggested websites.

Pick one to explore.

Write a short review of the website from your perspective. (say 200-300 words)
Include information like:

What is the website intention?
What do they write about?
What can an average viewer get out of going to that website?
Will you add this website to your bookmarks?
Would you recommend the website?

the intention of the website is to show the reader different articles from pictures from around the world's current events. they write about the current events going on in the world. many political and environmental and cultural stories. the average viewer can get a lot of recent news about the world with pictures and stories.

Give it a rating on a scale of 1-5 (1 bad, 5 good) and tell me why you gave it that rating.

Finally, share something that you learned or a photo you're found on your website that you liked the most. Write a short (150-200) words about why you chose to share what you published on your blog.

phobias project

A. 1. What is a Phobia?      a phobia is fear of something

B. List and define 5 phobias from The Phobia List: http://phobialist.com
Sociophobia- Fear of society or people in general.

Spermatophobia or Spermophobia- Fear of germs.

Spheksophobia- Fear of wasps.

Scotophobia- Fear of darkness. (Achluophobia).

Acrophobia- Fear of heights.

C. Brainstorm on your blog possible ideas for your Phobia photo.

megalophobia- the fear of tall things.
Scotophobia- Fear of darkness. (Achluophobia).
Isolophobia- Fear of solitude, being alone.

Things to consider:

Figure(s) & Object(s) (which should reveal something of the phobia in the photo)
Format: horizontal vs Vertical
Subject Placement: Rule of Thirds, balance, ???
Background - what will be behind your subjects?
Point of View - where you place the camera, and what perspective do you want your viewers to see?
Lighting: create mood/feeling
Clothing: can suggest personal style/career profession
Subject: mannerism, reactions, expressions, and body language

Plan three different shoots with three different phobias. What will you shoot, who will model, how will you show the phobia in the photo, where will you shoot these images? Please detail this out in a paragraph for each phobia (remember you will shoot and turn in three photos).

for fear of tall things, I will take a photo of the tall building in downtown Austin. I will get right under it to make it look ominous like it is looming me. there might be someone in the photo. it will be a vertical photo. or I might have someone stand under it to convey the enormous size of the buildings. i will place the camera very low to show the sheer height of the buildings.

for fear of darkness it will take the photo in my room with no lights on but a single light like my phone flashlight or something small. I might stand behind the light to show that there is something in the light and you are not alone. shot horizontally.

for the fear of being alone, I will take a photo of me either in the street or on the sidewalk completely alone with no one in the street. I will try to take it when it is cloudy or darker outside to make it seem more ominous to show that there is very no color or people. shot horizontally.  I will wear very dark clothing. I will hang my head down to show like I'm sad or something.

D. What photographic techniques can you use to help highlight your images? Come up with one idea for each of your three photos you will take.

for the fear of tall things, I will place the subject in the bottom corner using the rule of thirds.
for the fear of darkness, there will be very little to see in the first place
for the fear of being alone, i will use balance

2019 recap

the reason why I chose this was because it shows a lot of emotion

it shows that she is apart of the community.

it shows the people want to remember the historical event of WWII

1. What was the best song of 2019?

Image result for old town road

I think the best song of 2019 was Old Town Road. the reason why I chose this song over the others is not that I liked it but the impact of the song.  the fact that a hip hop song was number 1 on the Billboard charts was impressive. also, the fact that it infused rap and country into one song was one of the first times that was ever done.

2. What was the best movie of 2019?

Image result for when was 1917 released

the reason why I chose this movie was that it only follows the 2 main characters and does not focus on any other characters. there were many great action scenes. it was very historically accurate. the actors did an amazing job of conveying the emotions and urgency of the mission.

3. What was the most important news story of the year?

I chose the hong kong protests for the most important news story. the reason why was that it
Many people in the territory feel deep contempt for the Chinese government and hope to preserve their freedoms for as long as possible. the movement is aimed at resisting encroachment from the mainland — but it has been complicated by rising violence.

5. What was the biggest sports OR entertainment story OR sports/entertainment person of 2019 (you should google what is appropriate for your choice), I leave this one to you to find a photo for.

the women's USA team won the world cup. with a 2-0 win over the Netherlands. The first half of the game went scoreless, with co-captain Megan Rapinoe earning the first goal of the game with a penalty kick at the 61-minute mark. Just before the 69-minute mark, midfielder Rose Lavelle, 24, scored the second goal. Following the win against the Netherlands, Rapinoe was awarded the Golden Boot for the most goals scored in the shortest amount of time.
