If you looked at a video, please do the following:

a.     Describe what you saw in the video. it was a timelapse of different places in Rio brazil.

b.     Try to figure out who made the video. If it was a photographer look them up on google and see if you can learn more about them. a Los Angeles based photographer specializing in ultra high definition (4K – 10K) time-lapse photography, still photography, cinematography, and editing.

c.     If there is a story about the video on the website, paraphrase it in 2-3 sentences. In this time-lapse of Rio de Janeiro, shown during session 1 of TEDGlobal 2014, waves lap the shore of Copacabana Beach with a beautiful rhythm, and clothes on a line flap in the breeze in a favela. Meanwhile, steam dances off a waterfall, and ships pirouette through the city’s harbor. Below, we asked its creator, Joe Capra of Scientifantastic, a few questions.

d.     What did you learn new?  I learned that you have to put the camera on a tripod with a new card. also a charger for the camera so it won't die depending on how long you want it to be.

The Hubble Space Telescope almost didn’t make it. Carried aloft in 1990 aboard the space shuttle Discovery, it was over-budget, years behind schedule and, when it finally reached orbit, nearsighted, its 8-foot mirror distorted as a result of a manufacturing flaw. It would not be until 1993 that a repair mission would bring Hubble online. Finally, on April 1, 1995, the telescope delivered the goods, capturing an image of the universe so clear and deep that it has come to be known as Pillars of Creation.

3. Every photo has some additional information, links, readings, or videos associated. Please tell me what you learned in addition to the actual photo. magazine part II

You also need to know a little more information about the types of magazine covers that have been used over the years. Here are the most common types:

Cover types

1. Image-Based
mostly used for fashion there are very very few people on the cover. the intent of the cover is to attract the viewers' eyes to it. the photos look very professional and it is very clear what it is trying to convey. meant to focus on one item and that is the center of the picture.
2. Illustration Based
used to present something funny or out of ordinary and there are not so many magazines that opt for illustrated covers. A magazine that uses illustration to explain and elucidate, Weapons of Reason aims to provoke action by making complex issues more accessible for the reader. the intent is to set a tone and pique a reader's interest.
3. Type Based
Type based cover pages tend to be striking and even shocking. they are mostly used to inform people of a subject. mostly used in academic settings. sometimes used for entertainment. more formal than other types of magazines. type based is used more than illustrated cover pages. the background makes your eyes get drawn to the words in the center.
4. Concept-Based
it is the best when it is used to present a strong message, in a shocking or just the opposite, funny way. The main trick to the concept based magazine covers is that they have to be instantly understandable. it is a metaphor for the topic that they are talking about.

Finally, what is the relationship between words and photos on magazine covers and why is this important?

the relationship for image based magazines is that the words go around the photo so it won't take away from the subject.
the relationship for the illustration based magazines is that there are very few words on the cover the main focus is still on the drawing.
the relationship for type based magazines there are no pictures associated with this type of magazine so the words stick out and your eyes get drawn onto the words.
the relationship for concept based magazines is that there are very few words on it the main focus is what the subject is representing. the main topic is in one or two words in plain sight.

Inspiring magazine covers

favorite:  Jessica Fecteau created this Vogue cover with bold lines and angles that traverse the model’s face and hand. Although she executed it digitally, the red and turquoise strips look like face paint with colors that match the masthead.

I like how the lines lead to the center of the face. and that no other elements are distracting from her face. the lighting is good because there is only one light source and it doesn't look too bright or too dark. the exposure is perfect because there are no areas that are too dark or too light. it looks good and well shot and no informal elements. the photo is formal and has good composition. the lines on her face really stand out compared to the other colors of the photo.

Please write a paragraph telling me your plan for your portrait assignment. Answer the following questions: who will you shoot, where will you shoot, and what will you do to make the shot successful.

for the project i will shoot my cousin during thanksgiving. i will shoot inside or outside. to make it successful i will limit the distracting elements in the background. for my self portrait i will take the photo outside because i enjoy the outdoors. i will try and get good lighting so you can see me and try to limit the distracting elements that will take away from me. i will also use the rule of thirds to draw the eyes to my face.
